Legal Task Force (LTF)

Overview

The Legal Task Force (LTF) operates under the UN Protection Cluster in the oPt, comprising of international and local legal aid organizations, from both Israel and Palestine.

With a focus on pursuing domestic legal remedies to mitigate human rights violations and subsequent humanitarian suffering, the LTF serves as a platform for collaboration, information-sharing, and coordinated action to address critical legal issues affecting communities at risk of forcible transfer.

Mission

The LTF aims to identify legal developments, gaps, and trends, promote research and analysis, and facilitate capacity building and peer-to-peer learning events. Through strategic coordination and engagement with humanitarian and human rights actors, the LTF endeavors to ensure optimal protection and alleviate suffering in the region.

Mission

The LTF is made up of two separate forums, each meeting monthly, in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, respectively. Chaired by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), these forums address region-specific challenges and concerns:

  • West Bank LTF:
    • Focus areas include Housing, Land and Property (HLP) Violations, Residency Rights Issues, Restrictions on Access and Movement, and Settler Violence / Land Takeover.
  • Gaza Strip LTF:
    • Key issues addressed encompass Civil Documentation, Access Issues, and HLP Rights within the Framework of Reconstruction.
