RCG Sixth Session (2020)

  

The Government of Nepal, and the Co-Secretariat – the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs for Asia and the Pacific (OCHA ROAP), the Center for Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (CFE-DMHA) and the Australian Civil-Military Centre (ACMC) – held a virtual abbreviated RCG session on 16 December 2020.

The abbreviated session covered two priority issues identified in the mid-term consultation:

1. Updates to country work plans on CMCOORD (Papua New Guinea, Nepal, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar and the Philippines).

2. A panel discussion on civil-military coordination in disaster response during pandemics.

Mr. Janak Raj Dahal, Joint Secretary (Disaster and Conflict Management Division), Ministry of Home Affairs, Nepal, opened the abbreviated session, highlighting the importance of civil-military coordination during the global pandemic, and Nepal’s commitment towards the RCG. Brigadier General Ram Nath Dhungana, Head of Disaster Management Directorate, Nepal Army spoke later in the session reiterating the MOHA’s message. This was followed by welcoming remarks from the Co-Secretariat - OCHA ROAP Head of Office Markus Werne, CFE-DMHA Director Joseph Martin and ACMC Executive Director Dr Alan Ryan, who emphasized the importance of the RCG continuity, to share information and best practices despite the evolving COVID-19 situation.
