The Information Management Working Group (IMWG) supports the Humanitarian Coordination Task Team (HCTT) to strengthen information management coordination with all actors, across clusters, sectors and areas of responsibility. It is co-chaired by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) and the UN Resident Coordinator's Office (UNRCO). It brings together IM focal persons to jointly discuss and reach common understanding on data and information management practice before, during and after crises. The establishment of the IMWG is premised on UN General Assembly Resolution 59/2121 that calls upon States, the United Nations and other relevant actors, as appropriate, to assist in addressing knowledge gaps in disaster management and risk reduction by identifying ways of improving systems and networks for the collection and analysis of information on disasters, vulnerability and risk to facilitate informed decision-making and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, 2015-2030 that aims to achieve substantial reduction of disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods and health and in the economic, physical, social, cultural and environmental assets of persons, businesses, communities and countries over the next 15 years. At the national level, the IMWG is operates in alignment with the framework of the Standing Orders on Disaster, 2019, in which the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh articulates its commitment to disaster management, and calls for the formulation and the implementation of the Guidelines for Disaster Information and Communication Management. The mandate of the IMWG is also in alignment with The Statistics Act, 2013 in which the Government of Bangladesh recognizes the necessity for making statistical activities expedited, integrated, target-oriented and preserved.
