Sexual and Reproductive Health Working Group

SRH Working Group – Syria
Who we are
Guided by IASC principles and the mandate of the Global Health Cluster's SRH Task Team, the Sexual and Reproductive Health Working Group (SRHWG), under the Health Sector in Syria, is a dynamic coalition of over 90 partners, including the Ministry of Health, local health authorities, UN agencies, INGOs, national NGOs, professional syndicates, academia and other partners operating in all 14 governorates of the country. The SRHWG in Syria was established in 2019 to address the critical SRH needs in both humanitarian and development contexts. It is currently co-chaired by UNFPA and WHO (national level), in close partnership with the Ministry of Health and local authorities.
Our Vision & Mission
  • Vision: To save lives and promote dignity through the provision of essential SRH services in emergencies, while contributing to a resilient health system that ensures universal access to sexual and reproductive health for all people in Syria.
  • Mission: To collectively prepare for and respond to humanitarian emergencies while simultaneously strengthening national capacity to deliver sustainable, high-quality Sexual and Reproductive Health outcomes for all affected populations through timely, effective, and coordinated action.
What We Do
The fundamental function of the SRHWG is to support national health systems in improving sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (SRMNCAH) outcomes. We achieve this through several core functions and activities namely:
  • Coordination platform: Host regular national and sub-national meetings. Map SRH partners, services and referral pathways (SRH dashboards, Health Sector 4Ws / Activity Info). Foster links with other sectors/working groups (Health, Protection/GBV, PSEA, MHPSS, nutrition, WASH).
  • Evidence-based interventions and advocacy: Support the analysis of service gaps through evidence-based methods, including joint SRH needs assessments, surveys, and research, to inform strategic planning and response.
  • Strategic planning: Develop/update SRH response strategies and work plans aligned with the HRP. Promote standard protocols and guidelines.
  • Monitoring and reporting: Collect, analyze, and disseminate SRH data. Report regularly to the Health Sector.
  • Capacity building: Identify training needs and coordinate capacity-building initiatives for partners.
  • Advocacy: Develop key SRH advocacy messages. Advocate for funding and integration of SRH in emergency response and development plans.
  • Information management: Share information, guidelines, meeting minutes, relevant resource materials, research findings and reports among members and stakeholders.
Our Commitment
Despite the immense challenges in Syria, the commitment of SRHWG partners remains steadfast. Through continuous engagement and collective action, we work to ensure that all vulnerable populations – especially women, girls, adolescents and persons with disability – have equitable access to the quality, timely, and life-saving SRMNCAH services and information they need to survive and thrive.
