SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

In accordance with the IASC Guidelines for Health Cluster Coordination, the Health Cluster in Somalia has established the Sexual and Reproductive Health Technical Working Group (SRHTWG) to support the coordination of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) interventions during the crisis. This is also in alignment with the Somalia National Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, and Adolescent Health (RMNAH) Strategy that emphasizes coordination and collaboration for an efficient implementation of the Reproductive Health (RH) strategy. The SRHTWG is a forum for promoting collaboration between RH partners with the aim to coordinate the reproductive health sub-sector; strengthen advocacy and field actions for greater consideration of sexual and reproductive health in humanitarian programs and interventions; to better coordinate and harmonize them; to increase efficiency in the mobilization and use of resources as well as accountability to beneficiaries, donors and partners. It ensures that the analysis of RH needs is regularly carried out and will identify the strategies and means to fill the gaps. The SRHTWG is co-chaired by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

The SRHTWG has several core functions which include the following:

  • Coordination and collaboration.
  • Coordinated evidence generation and dissemination.
  • Application of norms standardization and quality assurance of action for RH.
  • Planning and strategy development.
  • Reproductive health commodities and supplies.
  • Advocacy and Resource mobilization.
