Gaza Debris Management Working Group

Overview

Gaza Debris Management Working Group Logo

The Debris Management Working Group (DWG) has been established to support the coordination, planning and implementation of debris management efforts across the Gaza Strip, working with all debris actors to facilitate that activities are safe, efficient and responsive to priority areas, promote circularity-based debris management and are in compliance with relevant national laws. At the same time, it is recognized that the unprecedented scale of the debris situation in the Gaza Strip will require pragmatic solutions and potential derogations to deal with the ongoing emergency. Co-chaired by UNDP and UNEP, the DWG holds monthly meetings to facilitate information sharing, develop standard protocols and training materials, and provide advisory support to its members.

Debris Management Framework

The Gaza Debris Management Framework provides the minimum requirements and a structured process to help guide debris management activities. It requires participating organisations to ensure that debris arising from demolition and debris removal works are safely disposed of and to the extent possible, recycled into new (re)construction materials as encapsulated in the debris management hierarchy.
