WASH SECTOR NE Nigeria
The humanitarian efforts of the WASH sector in Northeast Nigeria focus on providing life-saving emergency assistance to those in need, including displaced individuals, returnees, and host communities. The goal is to protect human dignity, enhance survival and living conditions, and support host communities in accommodating internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees. This initiative aligns with both international humanitarian and human rights law, as well as Nigerian laws, with a strong emphasis on safeguarding the rights and safety of all individuals, particularly those with disabilities or special needs. The WASH sector’s approach is driven by principles such as integration, coordination, timeliness, effectiveness, accountability, and responsiveness to the needs of vulnerable populations.

The sector encourages the participation of partners who are committed to strengthening WASH services in Nigeria and contributing to the sector's strategic priorities. All partners are expected to follow relevant humanitarian guidelines and meet minimum standards tailored to the ever-changing context of Northeast Nigeria. Under the leadership of the Ministry of Water Resources, the sector focuses on improving access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services, particularly for vulnerable women and children in conflict-affected areas. The WASH sector works collaboratively through strategic planning, data management, resource mobilization, ensuring accountability, and coordinating efforts to achieve a well-organized division of labor.
