Gender Equality Programming
Gender Equality Programming in the Nigeria Humanitarian Operation is supported by the Gender Technical Team (GTT). The GTT comprises gender advisors and focal points from all sectors, provides cross-sectoral and inter-organisational support to ensure the integration of gender aspects in the Nigeria humanitarian operation. It ensures knowledge and usage of key tools such as the IASC Gender with Age Marker (GAM) and the Gender Handbook for Humanitarian Action, and building of capacity on gender across agencies and sectors.
The GTT is co-chaired by United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Women Empowerment (UN Women); and reports to the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) and the Operational Humanitarian Country Team (OHCT). It provides Inter-Agency coordination; Cross-sectoral technical support; Capacity development; Support to Sectors in Gender needs assessment, analysis and monitoring and Advocacy/policy development to ensure the integration of gender aspects from an intersectional perspective in the humanitarian response in Nigeria.
To improve work on common and complementary approaches on Gender Equality Programming in Emergencies (GEPiE), the GTT coordinates its work with the Nigeria Gender Technical Group (GTG), Protection Sector (incl. GBV & CP) and Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) Working Group (WG) and all other WGs with links to the humanitarian-development nexus.
