Health Sector

Overview

The health sector in Lebanon operates under the leadership of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH). Complementing this leadership from the UN and NGO sides, the sector is co-led by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Refugees Agency (UNHCR), with coordination efforts facilitated by WHO, UNHCR, and Amel Association.

For 2024, it’s estimated that 3.69 million Lebanese, Displaced Syrians, Palestinian refugees in Lebanon (PRL), Palestine Refugee from Syria (PRS), and migrants across Lebanon are in need of humanitarian health services. To help address these needs, the 2024 LRP for health is focused on 4 key outcomes:

  1. Improve access to comprehensive primary healthcare.
  2. Improve access to hospital and advanced referral care.
  3. Enhance emergency, outbreak & infectious diseases preparedness and response.
  4. Improve access to health awareness & information.
