Ethiopia: Humanitarian Situation Update, January - December 2024
Highlights
- In 2024, the Government of Ethiopia and humanitarian partners reached 11.4 million people with at least on type of humanitarian assistance at a cost of US$1.79 billion.

Credit: UNOCHA/ Nesebho Asrat With only 55 per cent of the Ethiopia humanitarian requirements met and given the dynamic humanitarian context, the Government and partners had to actively prioritize the most urgent and dire needs throughout the year.
- Despite challenges, significant successes were registered across sectors, including the containment of the cholera outbreak in 222 out of 235 affected woredas.
- A critical success of 2024 was the launch of drought anticipatory action projects which allowed partners to take actions to mitigate the impact of a La Niña-induced drought in southern and southeastern Ethiopia.
