Child Protection

About Child Protection in Somalia

Established in 2010, the Child Protection Area of Responsibility (CP AoR) in Somalia serves as a platform where agencies with child protection programs coordinate interventions, seek consensus on strategic matters, and establish partnerships to optimize resource prioritization. Led by UNICEF Somalia, co-led by Save the Children International (SCI). Part of the National CPAoR coordination team includes a roving coordinator and a Case Management Task Force coordinator both seconded to the CPAoR  by SOS CV Somalia. The National Child Protection AoR aims to engage relevant agencies and existing coordination mechanisms in Somalia.

Operating within the Somalia Protection Cluster, the CP AoR's overarching goal is to spearhead the coordination of child protection efforts in humanitarian settings, ensuring that children in emergencies are shielded from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence. Membership in the CP AoR is open to UN agencies, international organizations, national and international NGOs, government entities, and civil society organizations actively engaged in child protection programming in Somalia
